AAPA will build and strengthen its AAPA Anywhere brand in 2021 to deliver a mix of in-person, virtual and hybrid conferences and events, while remaining committed to following all guidance and protocols regarding health and safety. In addition to a hybrid Spring Conference in Washington, D.C. (March 15-18) and a hybrid 110th Annual Convention & Exposition in Austin, TX (Sept. 26-29), the American Association of Port Authorities (AAPA)— the unified and recognized voice of seaports in the Americas—has slated seven additional maritime industry conferences, meetings and professional training seminars for 2021.
The additional events include the virtual Communications, Administration and Legal Issues Seminar (Feb. 22-26), the week-long, in-person Marine Terminal Management Training Seminar in Miami, FL (April 19-23), the in-person Commissioners Seminar in San Diego, CA (May 11-13), the virtual Cruise Seminar (June 21-25), a hybrid Port Security Seminar and Expo in New York, NY (July 13-15), the hybrid Facilities Engineering Seminar and Expo in Savannah, GA (Nov. 2-4) and the in-person Executive Management Conference in Phoenix, AZ (Nov. 15-19).
“For 2021,” said AAPA Membership and Sponsorship Vice President Meredith Martino, “we look forward to convening our industry again in safe and appropriate settings. At the same time, we’ll continue to grow our AAPA Anywhere virtual offerings, including by adding virtual elements to in-person events to offer hybrid experiences, where attendees can choose the participation option that’s right for them. Additionally, should pandemic conditions force us to pivot away from individual in-person events, we have the capability to successfully move from in-person or hybrid events to fully virtual events as needed.”

According to IHS Markit’s GTA Forecasting, combined international sea trade moving through Western Hemisphere seaports in 2018 totaled nearly 4.2 billion metric tons in volume and US$3.7 trillion in value. Of that combined total, seaports in Central and South America handled 1.86 billion metric tons of cargo valued at US$1.17 trillion, while North American seaports handled 2.34 billion metric tons of goods, valued at US$2.53 trillion. Within North America, U.S. seaports handled 1.01 billion metric tons of international trade valued at US$1.95 trillion, while Canada’s seaports handled 380.53 million metric tons of goods valued at US$266.67 billion, and Mexico’s seaports handled 352.53 million metric tons of cargo valued at US$312.91 billion.
