AAPA’s Cargo Optimization program featured two concurrent tracks addressing both container and non-container issues pertinent to today’s ports. The Supply Chain Optimization track examined challenges relating to terminal congestion, chassis and empties management, operational practices and communication gaps along the supply chain.
IMO Container Weight Verification Webinar
The AAPA, the World Shipping Council (WSC), the National Association of Waterfront Employers (NAWE) and the National Industrial Transportation League (NITL) teamed together for a webinar to discuss the International Maritime Organization’s (IMO) requirement that shippers verify container weights effective July 1, 2016. The webinar addressed feedback concerning implementation of the policy change requiring shippers to provide a verified weight (verified gross mass or VGM) for all packed containers prior to loading aboard a ship for export and its impact on ports.
